Christine Long Senior Counsel

Christine advises the top tier of hedge funds and asset managers on industry change and structuring and negotiating bespoke derivative transactions. Christine also works closely with the Lawtech team developing technological solutions for legal problems and offering new and innovative ways to tackle legal challenges.

Christine specialises in OTC derivatives and structured finance transactions and has broad expertise across a number of asset classes, including credit, rates and equities.  In particular Christine has broad experience advising on large-scale dislocation projects, most recently in the context of IBOR transition. Christine also has experience advising on sustainability-linked derivatives and carbon offset trading documentation.

Prior to joining Macfarlanes, Christine was an executive director at a Magic Circle law firm, focussing on creating and building specific legal solutions for clients using technology and new resourcing models. Christine has played a key role in the development and build of a number of proprietary client-facing systems, including using AI technology, to facilitate compliance with new regulatory requirements. Other projects include advising NetOTC, a new clearing house involving an innovative approach to clearing OTC derivatives, and transfers of derivatives portfolios.

Christine has undertaken a number of secondments at global banks and has worked in London, Paris and Hong Kong.
