Alexander Coyne Senior Counsel
Alex acts for asset managers, pension schemes, hedge funds, high-net-worth individuals and corporates on a variety of brokerage, trading, derivatives and structured products matters.
Alex advises brokers and buy-side clients across a wide range of asset classes (including equity, credit and fund-linked derivatives) and provides analysis of associated practical and regulatory issues. Alex’s practice has a particular focus on structured derivatives and other securitised products and he has particular experience of equity derivatives products and cross-asset proprietary indices delivered in both OTC and securitised form and via relevant fund wrappers. Recent experience also includes advising on the regulatory margin implementation for major buy-side clients as well as EMIR and other post-Brexit requirements.
Prior to joining Macfarlanes, Alex trained and qualified as a solicitor at a Magic Circle firm, practising in their derivatives and structured products practice. Alex has extensive in-house investment banking experience, having worked in the equity derivatives teams at UBS and JPMorgan. Most recently, Alex worked as sole legal counsel of a start-up exchange traded fund (ETF) provider where he was involved in the structuring of an exchange traded products (ETP) platform.
