11 January 2024

Macfarlanes is pleased to announce its participation in the UK commercial preview of Lexis+ AI, the generative AI solution launched by LexisNexis. Participation in the preview demonstrates the progression of the firm’s AI strategy which encourages and supports the exploration and development of cutting-edge generative AI in the legal sector.

LexisNexis is a global provider of legal information and analytics. Grounded in this repository of legal content, Lexis+ AI combines the power of generative AI with proprietary LexisNexis search technology and authoritative content.

Lexis+ AI technology features conversational search, insightful summarisation, intelligent legal drafting capabilities and document upload capabilities, all supported by state-of-the-art encryption and privacy technology to keep sensitive data secure.

Macfarlanes intends to trial the tools and feedback to the Lexis+ AI team to ensure the technology enhances the efficiency of legal services.

Exploring how generative AI might be implemented into existing systems such as Lexis Nexis is one part of the firms AI strategy. Macfarlanes also develops generative AI tools in-house and partners with new external tools. In September 2023, Macfarlanes announced its partnership with Harvey AI.

Luke Powell, Managing Partner at Macfarlanes said: “This latest initiative solidifies our position as a firm of the future. Our generative AI strategy provides innovative ways of tackling clients’ most complex issues.”

Chris Tart-Roberts, Head of Lawtech and Chief Knowledge and Innovation Officer at Macfarlanes commented: “We are very excited to access the Lexis+ AI solution. Generative AI has the power to significantly enhance the efficiency of legal services and we are at the forefront of utilising these technologies to augment our lawyers.”

“We’re thrilled to work with a firm who is so invested in supporting the development of generative AI,” said Gerry Duffy, MD of LexisNexis UK. “We look forward to seeing how the Lexis+ AI solution can streamline the existing services at Macfarlanes and support their legal expertise”.
