Macfarlanes has advised German hygiene paper company WEPA on its acquisition of the 50 per cent stake in its Northwood & WEPA joint venture, a paper supplier based in the UK, currently held by its UK joint venture partner.

The WEPA Group is one of the three largest suppliers in the European tissue market, with 3,800 employees and a turnover of approximately €1.2bn following the transaction.

The Macfarlanes team for this matter was led by corporate and M&A partner Harry Coghill with assistance from senior solicitor Tom Crill and solicitor Henry Cooksey. Tax expertise was provided by partner Jeremy Moncrieff alongside senior solicitor Gregory Price and solicitor Tom Barr. Competition advice came from partner Malcolm Walton.

Harry Coghill comments: “We are delighted to have advised WEPA on this important transaction, which will help WEPA to grow its presence in the UK and in the private label markets, and look forward to working with the WEPA team towards completion in July 2018”.
