Working closely with our real estate team, we advise on the tax aspects of every stage of property investment, financing and development transactions. Our clients range from multinational financial services companies, to the largest property development groups, to a variety of real estate fund and investment trusts.
Our range of services includes:
- advising on the optimal tax structure for a real estate project, whether it is formation of a fund / joint venture, holding structure for a UK real estate investment, a major development, sale or leaseback financing transactions;
- advising on the most efficient way to finance real estate assets and the extent to which shareholder debt can be used to mitigate the UK tax burden, within the confines of the transfer pricing, corporate interest relief and anti-hybrid rules;
- ensuring that as far as possible VAT recovery is optimised; and
- advising on any enquiry or dispute with the UK tax authorities involving the tax treatment of real estate projects, which might include advising on options in the event of a tax assessment, or a challenge by HMRC’s Offshore Property Developers Taskforce.
